While this article will focus on general steps involved in proper connection forwarding to CCTV DVR, the part two is all about dynamic DNS support and workarounds. Before we step into the main subject, I like to explain very briefly a few key aspects of Internet connection for those of us not familiar with term like IP address, DDNS, port forwarding or IP mapping.

Terminology:

Every computer or other network device, in our case CCTV recorder has its own address called IP address, much like your home address it allows the information to find its way in enormous world of internet. IP address has four groups of numbers separated by dots; the number range is between 0 and 255. There are two separate networks that we need to take into consideration, LAN for Local Area Network and WAN for Wide Area Network. LAN has its own IP addresses and handles connection on local network devices (computers or devices located in your home or office network), if WAN IP is your home address than LAN IP would be your apartment number.

WAN IP is an external address visible to every user on the Internet. We will explain rest of the terminology as we go along.

Setup:

The best way to explain and clarify surveillance DVR connection setup is to use an example. In our example, we will setup DVR model VDV-074 from DVRExperts thru Netopia Router/Modem combo currently used by AT&T DSL provider with static IP service, I will also use Linksys WRT54G Router for Cable DSL connection. Security DVR recorder needs to be connected to the Internet through Router and Modem, in some cases Router and Modem are all in one devices, for example Netopia Routers.

For standalone Modems please connect the Internet out to WAN port, on your Router. Connect CCTV DVR and computers to available ports on the Router as well. Your Router will need to be setup now to log in to the Internet service provider and establish connection.

Netopia Router users:

Open up browser on your computer and type into the address bar your routers default IP http://192.168.1.254. User name and password window should appear; the default user name and password for Netopia Routers are admin for user and serial number of your Router for the password.

Select Configure followed by Quick start link, type your Internet service providers user name (email address) and your ISP password. Click submit and alert icon located in upper right corner (I know it is strange), finally select save and restart. Your connection should be up in minute or so, click home link to see your connection status.

Linksys Router users:

Open up browser on your computer and type into the address bar your routers default IP http://192.168.1.1. User name and password window should appear; the default user name and password for Linksys routers are admin for user and admin for the password.

The home page of the router has ISP settings, type in your email address as a user name and ISP password for the password, select save or submit. The Router will restart after minute or so, log in again and go to status page to see if your connection status is UP.

If everything is ok and your connection is UP, we can now proceed to fun part of the setup process

There is great number of different security Digital Video Recorders on the market, so please follow your DVR's manual for details; I will only provide the proper settings. In the DVR menu, setup static LAN (Internal) IP for the DVR, in our example we have 3 computers and DVR. Each device has assigned LAN IP address as follows:

Computer 1 - 192.168.1.100

Computer 2 - 192.168.1.101

Computer 3 - 192.168.1.102

DVR - 192.168.1.103

The surveillance DVR will now be accessible within our network by typing its assigned internal IP (192.168.1.103) into browser or connection software. What we need now is to forward the connection from external IP (WAN) which is accessible from outside of our network to the LAN IP of the DVR (192.168.1.103).

Netopia Router users:

Select Configure followed by Advanced and finally IP Maps. IP map table should be empty, click on add and type into IP Map Entry Name text box the name of your DVR connection, in our example I just typed in DVR so I know what this IP map is for. In Internal IP address box type in 192.168.1.103, for external IP address refer to you ISP work sheet and find out what is your IP. In some cases ISP will provide more than one static IP, you can choose one of them.

Click submit and alert icon located in upper right corner, finally select save and restart.

From now on anyone requesting external IP will be forwarded to the internal IP of the DVR (192.168.1.103), therefore the connection should be established successfully.

Linksys Router users:

When setting up your DVR for access from the Internet, you will need to configure Port Forwarding on your Linksys Router. This can be accomplished in one of two ways, Specific Port Forwarding or the DMZ host. The DMZ host automatically forwards all incoming connection requests to a given IP address on your local network. Open the Applications & Gaming section of the router and choose DMZ. DMZ is not secure and should only be used with embedded, non-PC based CCTV recorders.

To expose the DVR to the Internet, enter the DVR local IP address (192.168.1.103) in the DMZ Host IP address box. In some cases you may just want to forward specific ports to your security DVR. If you are running any other device/server that hosts services available to the internet, you will want to use specific port forwarding instead of the DMZ Host, also if your DVR is PC based it is strongly recommended for security reasons, to only forward ports used by DVR connection. Open the applications & Gaming section of the router and choose Port Range Forwarding. Type in the name for the connection, starting port number, ending port number and internal IP of the DVR (192.168.1.103 in our example). Save and exit.

Your connection is now setup properly.

You probably noticed the term static IP in this article, and are wondering what that is.

Well, static IP is what the name suggests an IP that never changes. While there is no problem with internal IP selection; we can use whatever we want or prefer - the external IP, usually is dynamic. The static IP has to be requested from the ISP and is more expensive than dynamic IP. In our case we do want static IP so we have address for CCTV DVR connection that will never change.

Throughout this tutorial I have assumed that the external static IP is available.

Unfortunately in many areas it is not, or the cost is prohibitive. Don't panic yet, there is at least couple of different ways around this problem and I will try to go over each approach in my next article "How to use free dynamic DNS services for DVR connection."

Robert Moskal is Technical Department Manager at V2Comp,Inc, a major distributor of security equipment located in Chicago area. The connection from the cabinet to the home is then made along traditional copper cables.

The second, installed by Bytel Networks, is limited to just 10 homes, and provides a "fibre to the home" network. Within these homes a small unit was installed under the stairs that converts the fibre's optical signal into a digital one. Connections to the houses' telephone sockets where then made using copper wiring.

Both networks will be capable of providing residences with a broadband download speed of 20Mbps, at a reasonable cost.

This is because installing fibre networks into new houses does prove an economical investment; it's just the replacement of copper to fibre networks that proves costly. This is one of the factors that is causing Britain to lag behind in the race to super fast broadband

As mentioned, the two networks will prove as a trial, allowing companies to asses which network proves more successful, thus allowing for better future growth.

Liam is a UK based author, currently focusing on broadband Compare cheap broadband online today.
Streamyx Promotions
Streamyx Promotions
Streamyx Online
Streamyx SOHO Package
Streamyx Packages
Streamyx Online
Streamyx Combo Online Registration
Streamyx Packages
Streamyx Packages
Streamyx Registration
Streamyx Promotions
Streamyx Online
Streamyx Packages
Streamyx Combo Online Registration
Streamyx Online Registration

T3 Education - Is Your Business In Need of a T3

A T3 is a dedicated high-speed line that can be used for voice or data. The T3 uses digital signal and is transmitted over fiber or copper. It transmits data at a high speed - 43.232 Mbps. This speed is greater than most modems.

A T3 is equivalent to 28 T1s. Each T1 is made up of 24 channels that can be used for voice or data. The T1 terminates into the telephone room on a jack called a smart jack. From there you can extend the circuit into the telephone or data equipment with a simple fiber cable. Each T1 uses 2 pair fiber connections to bring all channels to you. Therefore, the space requirements for T1 lines are much less than the equivalent amount of standard copper trunks would take up.

Each T1 provides 24 channels, which are then shared among the users. The T1 works efficiently to provide flexible channels as needed. When a channel is free it is available to any user. The typical T1 can accommodate between 50 and 100 users comfortably. More phone-intense applications such as call centers will require additional T1s. If you have significant need, a T3 is the next logical choice. It provides an extended bandwidth that will easily accommodate all applications.

Many people are familiar with a DSL or digital subscriber line. The DSL is a slower circuit, which is not dedicated. It typically runs over your current telephone line and is mainly used for individual service. The T1 circuit is a dedicated circuit used specifically by businesses. The speed of the T1 is much faster than the DSL allowing for more advanced features and connections. The DSL is not a viable option for a large company or organization. Instead, a T1 is the preferred telecommunication method for businesses.

Larger organizations such as those with a campus environment may need more than one T1. For these situations there is the T3. It can be used for voice, data or both, depending on how it is configured. To determine your needs you should first determine your current usage for both voice communications as well as data communications. Next, be sure to understand what data applications you currently use as well as those that your company would like to use given the proper bandwidth. Then, think about future growth, not only specific growth of the company but also the growth of applications that may become available in the future.

A T3 may seem expensive however it is always a less expensive choice than using a comparable amount of typical standard copper trunks. The costs of T1s and T3s have actually been decreasing in the past several years. This is due in part to the fact that most central office locations are now upgraded to be able to supply these services. Another factor is that there is now much competition with many providers offering these services. Installation costs may be steep but you should expect to see a good return on your investment easily within a year.

Article written by Van Theodorou, for a free consultation to see if you need a T3 voice or internet service and learn more on the T3 at his T3 learning center.
Streamyx Business Packages
Streamyx Online Registration
Streamy FAQ
Streamyx - No rental
Streamyx Registration
Streamyx - No rental
Streamyx Free Modem
Streamyx Value Added Services
Streamyx Online Registration
Streamyx Combo 140
Streamyx Corporate
Streamyx Packages
Streamyx Combo 160
Streamyx Corporate
Streamyx Combo 1MB

Free Wireless Connection For You!

Sometimes life gives you lemons and you have to just make do with what you have. But if you pause, get in your zen space and really think about things, talk things out with people and get different ideas from brainstorming, you might, just might come up with something that you can use to your benefit. So, in doing such a thing, just talking about internet connections and talking about the horrible speed of dial-up and things like that, someone that I know gave me the idea of looking for free wireless rather than subscribing to a wireless service and paying about thirty dollars or more a month.

So how do you do that -if you do not want to spend the money and if you still want something faster than dial-up? Where do you look?

Answer- go to any of your public libraries. (Possibly your private libraries or school libraries might offer this same free service. You can begin your free wireless connection through the library as long as you are in the library ). So become a book-bug and head off into the nearest library to enjoy the great fast speed of braodband and DSL, without paying the bigger price of it. Right now, you can connect by wireless (If you have a wireless card in your computer -and most modern laptops have that already) at the New York Public Libraries and at the Brooklyn Public Libraries in Brooklyn, Staten Island and all the boroughs. Most likely you can do that at any library. Just check with the librarian, for more information . I will write another article giving specific instructions on how to do the connection -at a later date.

Linda Perry a published author, creator of genuine, unique television shows that air on Time Warner and on Cablevision in New York City. Or a web page that explains PC-to-phone is VoIP? How about Internet phone service? VoIP right? Wrong! VoIP is neither broadband phone, PC-to-phone or Internet phone service. It's time to set the record straight once and for all.

VoIP is an abbreviation for Voice over Internet Protocol. VoIP is a technology that makes such things as broadband phone service, PC-to-phone, and Internet phone service possible by using the Internet to send and receive phone calls. The technology is VoIP while the means are broadband phone or PC-to-phone and the like.

So now we know what broadband phone isn't, I suppose this would be a good place to explain what it is, exactly. Broadband phone service as discussed before, uses VoIP technology to send and receive phone calls using your regular everyday household touch tone corded or wireless telephone.

Technically broadband phone service doesn't even need your computer to work, you just need a broadband Internet connection, and both DSL or cable broadband will work. You'll also need a broadband telephone adaptor to plug your phone line into instead of the usual wall jack. Pretty simple huh?

What broadband phone service allows you to do is bypass your telephone company, and connect your call directly to the same grid your phone company uses. Can you guess what that is? Right, the Internet. All this time your phone company has charged you just to connect your call to the Internet! What a rip off, right?

Now just wait, it gets better. So far Uncle Sam and the telcos have not been able to tax or collect on sir charges as had been the case for many years with your landline phone company. Right now additional charges are very minimal. Did you know that taxes and hidden fee's can make up as much as 20% of your landline phone bill?

Now on to PC-to-phone service. PC-to-phone works in much the same way broadband phone works, but without an adapter. Instead you just need a headset or speakers and microphone and PC-to-phone software installed on your computer. You can use PC-to-phone to call someones phone from your computer, and sometimes people can even call your computer.

Now before you get excited, PC-to-phone is not free. The cent per minute rates are low for long distance, but you normally get charged the same amount for a local call. Whats worse, PC-to-phone services actually do no service for you at all. It uses the software that you downloaded and host on your computer to track your calls, and doesn't cost them a penny when you make a call. You're just paying for the software over, and over, and over again.

Internet phone service is just a vague term for broadband and PC-to-phone type services. So now that you know what VoIP is not, and what broadband phone service and PC-to-phone is, why are you still using that landline phone? Broadband phone service is without any doubt the cheapest phone service on the planet and is the best way to take advantage of VoIP technology. Not to mention, it finally gives you a way to "stick it" to your phone company.

Daymon Hoag is the founder of Cheapest Service where you can shop for Over Internet Phone Service
Streamyx Registration
Streamyx Combo
Streamyx Petaling Jaya
Streamyx Combo 1MB
About Streamyx Combo
Streamyx Combo 2MB
Streamyx Free Gifts
Streamyx
Streamyx
Streamyx Entry
Streamyx
Streamyx Coverage
Streamyx Combo 60
Streamy FAQ
Streamyx Combo 1MB

Wireless Networks Like Never Before Using Bluetooth Technology

Most everyone has heard about Bluetooth wireless networking. It is a popular technology that is found in just about every corner of the globe and in numerous types of electronic equipment. The specifications for the powerful Bluetooth technology was invented during the 1990s and started to be introduced into the marketplace near the end of the century.

Ericsson (now Sony Ericsson) developed Bluetooth in an attempt to standardize wireless technology networking so that it would be cheaper and easier to integrate several devices. The ideal situation for the consumer would be for electronic companies to produce a single, shared standard, allowing customers to collaborate their wireless devices regardless of who made the products.

One of the factors that has helped Bluetooth become so popular, and the standard in short-range wireless communication, was the decision that Ericsson made to keep the Bluetooth specifications royalty free. Companies interested in implementing the technology were invited to join a consortium of developers and were then allowed to use the technology free-of-charge in any of their products.

This standard makes technology extremely affordable for manufacturers to continue creating groundbreaking equipment that incorporates the desired technology. Because of this, these devices have also become cheaper to the end user, and it has allowed Bluetooth networking to be the mobile wireless technology standard.

These electronic gadgets and tools can seamlessly connect and communicate with each other, transferring both voice and data simultaneously, thanks to the marvels of wireless networking technology. Bluetooth technology is designed for three types of wireless defined communication ranges.

Of these, the Class 2 wireless devices are the most powerful, having a range of up to 300 feet. Effective ranges of 50-100 feet are provided by lesser powered class 2 devices. Class 3 devices use less power, and their range is more limited to only about 15 to 30 feet.

Many people do not realize that Bluetooth technology was only designed for short-range connectivity and communications. When it was designed, the short-range limitation was actually an intentional feature.

This short-range design limits the possibility of interference from nearby electrical devices. This form of security prevents others from connecting with your devices, and protects the device along with your data.

Using less power, a necessary requirement for short distance transmission, is another benefit of limiting the range of networking devices. Less power required means an increased battery life, a key component required by most users, as a good many of their Bluetooth devices are powered by batteries.

There are a multitude of electronic devices that use Bluetooth wireless networking standards, such as: many wireless PDAs, wireless phones and wireless headsets that work in conjunction with each other and the Bluetooth wireless printer and wireless stereo headset, just to mention a few. Bluetooth technology is increasingly in demand in a wider range of products and manufacturers are working hard to satisfy this demand with more compatible electronic devices.

As a Sacramento computer service expert Graham Pendegrast knows how useful Bluetooth technology can be for a company's networking needs. For more complicated networking jobs Graham recommends Integral Networks, a Sacramento IT consulting company.
Streamyx Free Gifts
Streamyx Business
Streamyx Combo 384k
Streamyx Combo 1MB
Streamyx Home Basic
Streamyx Combo 1MB
Streamyx Combo 140
Streamyx Tmpoint
Streamyx Business
Streamyx Business Broadband
Broadband Malaysia
Streamyx Business
About Streamyx Combo
Streamyx
Streamyx - No rental

A Review of Genting Highlands Getaway With Star Cruise

On-Board the Super Star Virgo luxury liner

We started our getaway with a cruise on the Superstar Virgo from Singapore to Port Klang. We spent 2 days 1 night on board. We departed Singapore at 10:30pm and reached Port Klang the following afternoon at 3pm.

Our cabin was on the 11th floor without a pothole. We were surprised by the welcome gifts awaiting us on the dressing table. The room was cozy and have comfortable beds that will definitely allow you to have a beautiful night's rest. The cabin isle is long which shows that its a long ship

The meals onboard were sumptuous. There was a choice of Western, Chinese and Mediterranean, each having a separate restaurant. We tried both the Chinese (for breakfast) tim sum style and Mediterranean (for dinner) buffet style. The breakfast was average but good enough to feel you. The dinner was better, evidenced with us going for a 2nd round to eat our fill. There are other restaurants onboard but you have to pay for them and is not included in the tour package

We toured the ship and used its facilities. Our first stop was the spa pool, hot bath and sauna. This was the first time I visited the hot bath and sauna. It was really hot and I had to open the door to let off some steam... Good thing no one was in it. hahaa. There was a theater for live performance. When there was no performance they would screen a movie. There are 13 floors in all in the ship, when you take the lift, it gives you a breath taking view of the beautiful interior. There are 2 swimming pools, one at the front and another at the rear of the ship. Last but not least we visited the casino. There were many tables for card games, roulette and others. There were many rows of slot machines too. One of the biggest casino on board a ship I have seen thus far.

Heading to Genting Highlands

We arrived Port Klang as scheduled and got off the ship to take the bus ride to Genting HighLands. The bus journey lasted 3 hours. It was like the expressway as there were no traffic lights to stop us. Along the way we got to see the majestic twin Petronas Towers at Kuala Lumpur. After a brief toilet break we started to ascend the hills of Genting HighLands. The road is not as winding as before as there are now 3 lanes going up and down. After an hour we reached the peak and proceeded to First World Hotel . It was already foggy and visibility was poor.

First World Plaza Indoor Theme Park

After dinner, we proceed to the First World Plaza Indoor Theme Park . We were amazed how a theme park could be within a building. As time was limited, we managed to ride only on the:

4D Motion Master (Fast)

Euro Express (Fast)

Ferris Wheel (Slow)

Funtasy World (Slow)

Reindeer Cruiser (Slow)

Venice Gondola (Slow)

Genting Outdoor Theme Park

The next morning we visited the Genting Outdoor Theme Park. It rainded alittle in the morning, however it stopped. We noticed that some rides have to be paid as it is not included in the entrance fee. We took rides on the following and these are included in the entrance fee:

Boating (Slow)

Bumper Boat (Slow)

Cyclone (Fast)

Dinosaurland (Slow)

Flying Dragon (Moderate fast - Fast)

Grand Prix Fun Kart (Moderate fast - Fast)

Matahari (Slow)

Monorail (Moderate fast)

Pirate Ship (Moderate fast)

Pirate Train (Moderate fast)

Space Shot (Very Fast)

Spinner (Fast)

Super Toboggan (Moderate fast - Fast)

Out of the 13 rides, we had the most adrenalin rush from the Space Shot ride. A word of advise, only ride it with an empty stomach. We left at about 4pm to explore the hotels and casinos

Hotel exploration

We exit from the outdoor theme part main entrance. The shopping path we took connected us to all the hotels like what we have at City Link at City Hall in Singapore. First we visited the Resort Hotel. It looked like it was under some renovation. Next we walked to Genting hotel and then to Highlands hotel . Highlands hotel look the most grandeur.

Casino exploration

We visited the casinos at First World hotel and Genting hotel. We only tried our luck on the jacpot machines and not the card games. It was thrilling and exciting though we did not win anything, its more how long can our $10 last. Haha. Btw, the air of the casinos are filled with smoke and many people tend to light up in there. After dinner we headed back to the jacpot area and later walked back to our hotel to turn in.

Going home

We left Genting at 3pm. It was a 6 hour bus ride back to Singapore. We stopped at Chong Pang Johor Bahru for a light dinner. On the way I noticed that street lamps only appeared when there is a major junction and the rest of the way was mostly dark. Our coach returned by the second link through the Tuas immigration check point which was much faster. We returned home with fond memories of our trip and had the feeling of wanting to stay there longer and not return :D.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Raymond Heng specializes in software development, software testing and software safety. The cost of any phone service in general has fallen dramatically in recent years, so it may be hard to see how a phone service can be any cheaper. The fact is, that for many people and particularly business owners Internet phone service is a lot cheaper and this particularly holds true if there are a lot of long distance phone calls being made.

If you currently subscribe to a cable service that offers a bundled service plan then they most likely offer Internet phone service as part of that plan. Some of these phone plans use a flat rate billing system that offers free nationwide long distance calling as well as all of your standard phone convenience features also at no cost. The benefits for a business that is currently enduring high long distance long distance phone charges will be immediate with Internet phone service.

This is because overseas long distance charges can be as low as two cents per minute depending on the location. For business people that have to travel overseas, they no longer have to use unreliable local phone services, because they can bypass the countries system by simply making their call from any location that has an Internet connection.

Another great aspect of Internet phone service is that the user never has to change their phone number no matter where they relocate to and this even applies if they relocate to another country. This means that when you leave an area that you have already become established as a business you still retain the same local phone number and any advertising that has been done that uses that number will not got to waste.

Written by Tate Christee. Along with high-speed Internet, many users may also use a router to allow multiple computers to connect to the Internet. This post will describe how a router is used to connect multiple computers. To make it easier to understand, I will use where you live as a comparison to how your computer is connected to the Internet.

What is an IP Address?

IP addresses are a series of numbers in the form: nnn.nnn.nnn.nnn, where nnn is a one to three digit number. An IP address is unique to an individual computer on a network, similar to how your home has a unique address. For an Internet connection, an IP address is supplied by your Internet Service Provider (ISP). In some cases, your ISP may provide you with more than one IP address, which allows you to connect multiple computers. As you will see later, however, you can still connect multiple computers with a single IP address.

Connecting a Single Computer

Connecting a single computer to your high-speed Internet is very simple to do. Simply connect a network cable into your modem, and then into the network card in your computer. Your computer will then be assigned an IP address from your ISP. For example, if your ISP assigned you the IP address of 24.24.50.17, then your computer will have that IP address.

When you make a request to a server, such as for a Web page, the Web server knows which IP address made the request. The information is then sent through the Internet and back to your computer. This is similar to when someone sends you mail to your home. The address on the mail allows it to be delivered to your home and not somewhere else.

Connecting Multiple Computers

How can multiple computers connect if only one address is assigned? When you make a request for a Web page, how does it know which computer requested that page? Let's take our home analogy one step further. Let's say instead of living in a house, you live in an apartment. When someone sends you mail, they not only include your address but also an apartment number. This number is internal to your apartment building and every apartment has its own unique number. Similarly, multiple computers can connect to the Internet if they each had there own unique local IP address. This can be handled by a router.

A router is a piece of hardware that connects directly to the modem. Each computer is then connected to the router, instead of the modem. Now instead of your computer having the IP address supplied by your ISP, your router now is assigned that IP address. This is similar to your router acting as the apartment building.

The beauty of a router is that it can assign its own local IP addresses. When you connect a computer to the router it now receives one of the IP addresses assigned by your router, similar to how each apartment has it's own number. Now when you make a request for a Web page, the request is sent using the same ISP address, but this time it is assigned to the router. When the Web page is returned, the router receives the request, and sends it locally to the computer that requested the page.

The router also has its own local address that is similar to the local IP addresses of the computers. So now the router has two addresses assigned to it: an external one provided by your ISP, and a local one provided by it. This allows the router to connect to both the Internet and the local network.

Note: The 192.168.xxx.xxx address are special IP addresses reserved for Local Area Networks (LANs).

Managing a FTP or Web Server on Your Network

Let's take a look at this scenario. You have a router connecting multiple computers to the Internet. But now you want to create a FTP or Web server. No problem. You setup the necessary software on a computer on your network, told someone outside your network the local IP address of your FTP server and they try to connect. They then discover that they can't connect. Why? Its similar to someone mailing something to you by just specifying your apartment number and no address.

The IP address assigned to your computer is local to your network. You can connect to that computer from within your network, but not from the Internet. You will need to use your ISP-assigned IP address (the one assigned to your router) to have someone from the Internet connect to your FTP server. The problem is that your router is assigned that IP and not your computer, and since an IP address must be unique, how can two computers have the same IP? The answer: they can't, but they don't need to.

Routers have the ability to forward information on a port to a specific computer. A port is a numbered channel that data can be sent through on a network. You cannot physically see it as it is a virtual channel used extensively in networking for sending/receiving data. For FTP servers the default port is 21; however another port can be used.

Open your router setup and look for the port forwarding option. Specify the internal IP address of your FTP server and the port number and then save that information. Now when a user tries to access your FTP site, they must use the ISP IP address that is assigned to your router. The router will then notice that the data is being sent on port 21 and then forward it automatically to your FTP server. A Web server can be setup the same way, but its default port is usually 80.

Note: By default a router will dynamically assign IP addresses to the computers connected to it. This means that the first computer to connect to the router will get the first available IP address, and the next will get the second, and so on. If you manage an FTP server, it may be easier to assign a static IP address to the computers to ensure that the FTP server always has the same IP address.

This article described how to connect one or more computers to one Internet connection. It is important to remember the following:

If you have one computer connected directly to the modem, then that computer will be assigned the IP address from your ISP.
When using a router, the the router will be assigned the IP address from your ISP. Any computers connected to the router will be assigned a local address by the router.
A router will have the ISP IP address and a local IP address. This allows it to connect to both the Internet and your network.
When setting up a computer as a FTP, Web, or other server to communicate over the Internet, it is important to use the router's IP address to access your server. You will then need to forward the necessary port to your server.

For more information, please read the Technically Easy blog.

Paul Salmon has been involved with computers for 20 years and currently works as a technical systems analyst. If you are not familiar with the terminology involved then even just choosing a technology is tough. The two major services our there are Cable Internet and DSL.

Cable
Cable service providers us the same coaxial cables that bring television to your TV set to also bring you broadband Internet access. Most cable modems are an extra box you plug into both your computer and your cable outlet. This lets a user watch TV and surf the Internet at the same time. And, like with DSL service, you have instant Internet access just by turning on your PC.

Regular cable Internet services have download speeds between four to six Mbps. That is about 70 times faster the dial-up connections. Because cable Internet is delivered from your local cable company you can choose to package Internet access, digital TV, and digital phone service in order to save some additional money every month.

DSL
DSL service uses regular phone lines to also transmit high-speed data. This allows your phone company to also provided Internet, TV, and phone services. DSL is one for the fastest growing broadband technologies for both personal use and businesses.

A typical DSL connection lets customers download data at up to 1.5 Mbps and an upload at 256 Kbps. Unfortunately, DSL has a downside. The further from the provider's central office the slower the connection speed will be. But for most users this is not a problem because the disadvantage is offset by the lower monthly fees. As well as, like cable broadband, DSL offers an always-on connection.

To summarize, if you only want an always-on connection with a small monthly fee then DSL is a good fit. If you prefer the highest connection speed offered then a cable modem will suite you best.

Find local Broadband Internet providers by visiting http://internet-access-broadband.com, a site that brings you the best info regarding America's broadband network.
Streamyx Tmpoint
Streamyx Soho
Streamyx Combo 90
Streamyx Entry
Streamyx Speedometer
Streamyx Combo 140
Streamyx Fixed Ips
Streamyx Wireless
Streamyx Self Installation Guide
Streamyx Petaling Jaya
Streamyx Wireless
WIMax
Streamyx
Broadband Malaysia
Streamyx subang Jaya

Cable TV Companies Bring True High Speed Internet Access Home

The Internet provides a great number of opportunities for entertainment, connecting with friends and business associates, getting an education, tracking investments, and finding great deals while shopping. With all of these advantages, you probably want to have a high speed Internet connection in your home if you don't have one there already. While upgrading from dial up is a good thing to do, you're probably kind of confused by the options that you have available to you. This is understandable with all of the different technologies and the companies that are offering them that you have to choose from.

If you're fortunate enough to have access to cable TV, then you're also probably fortunate enough to be able to get an Internet connection that's delivered over that same broad band digital cable technology. Granted that if you have access to cable Internet, then you also probably have access to DSL, satellite, and possibly some kind of municipal WiFi Internet as well, but there are still a lot of reasons to consider broad band cable.

The first advantage that broad band cable has over other forms of broad band Internet technology is speed. With the possible exception of muni WiFi, broad band cable high speed Internet has the largest bandwidths with download speeds that vary from six to twelve megabytes per second, depending on the level of service that's been subscribed to and whether or not the special Power Boost feature (which increases the baseline download speed by fifty percent for larger downloads) has kicked in. Both satellite Internet and DSL have bandwidths that are stuck around three megabytes per second and often quite lower, depending on where you live and how much you're willing to pay.

Getting your Internet connection over a cable also provides a greater level of security than any kind of WiFi. In fact, there are even people who look for WiFi connections so that they can see what's being transmitted- in effect spying on what WiFi users are looking at. Since there isn't a good way to make muni WiFi service secure, this is a very real danger. It's also theoretically possible to spy on satellite Internet signals as well.

Naturally, since DSL is transmitted over phone lines, it has a similar level of security to broad band digital cable Internet connection, but there are many other ways in which an Internet connection based on digital cable technology is superior. The fact that cables are a lot beefier than phone lines means that the signal that can be sent over them is a lot faster and more reliable. After all, skinny phone lines are subject to a lot more interference than coaxial cables and that interference can really slow things down.

All of the extra speed and reliability and security that you can get from a broad band cable Internet connection such as Comcast's translates into a level of Internet performance that you've probably only experienced in libraries, coffee shops, or at work up to this point.

The Internet is an increasingly vital part of everyday life and this technology can help you make the most of it.

This article is for consumers looking for information on Best Comcast Deals. You may find yourself wishing you that had more if your service is spotting and poor on the best of days. However, it may be difficult to determine the best Internet service provider in your area because there are so many different types of service out there. This means that you may have to make some phone calls and check out some special offers before you can sign up for the service.

The task of finding a great service provider may be made easier by deciding on what you need. Dial up service may work for you if you dont use your computer a lot, and dont spend a lot of time online. You can use dial up to check your email once a day, and perhaps to browse a few shopping sites, even if it is slow and fuzzy. You will have a wide variety of choices when it comes to dial up. Your search for the for the best Internet service provider will narrow down to reliability and the biggest amount of access numbers. After all, if you cant connect when you need to, then your Internet service is useless.

You will need high speed Internet if you spend more time online. You can choose between cable Internet that will come into your home via your cable line and DSL service that comes through your phone line. Both options cost about the same, but DSL is slower than cable. You can get DSL service from your phone company. However, your phone company might not be the best Internet service provider for you if you arent happy with their service.

Cable Internet may be the best Internet service provider for you and your family if you arent worried about budget. In this day and age, cable is the fastest service you can get in your home. It can also be bundled with a phone package from your cable company. You can save a lot of money each month if you choose this option. This might be the best Internet service provider available at the present.

However, you must be wary of signing any lengthy contracts because you may have a hard time getting out of a contract. You want to be able to switch providers quickly and easily if you are unhappy with the service you get.
